Fear of flying and Hypnotherapy
A fear of flying is more common than most people think. When we consider that air travel is safer than driving in a car, we can see it is an irrational and illogical fear. There are 29,000,000 people flying to and from Melbourne airport each year and Melbourne airport is very small compared to many. London has 48,000,000 people moving through it each year by plane.
That’s almost 80 million flights through two airports. There are over 40,000 airports around the world. Every day more than four million people fly on commercial airlines worldwide. Each year, 1.7 billion people on 25 million flights. Of the thirteen commercial air crashes worldwide in 2012, 508 people died. The road toll for Australia in 2012 was 1301. What are the odds of being in a plane crash? You could fly on average ten times every day for 541 years with these odds.
The above figures might tell us that the fear of flying is irrational and illogical but the subconscious isn’t rational or logical.
The reason why most people have this fear is their want for control. On a plane you hand any control to the pilot. You can’t just get out or get off. You are stuck on the plane until you reach your destination. This is the base of this fear in the subconscious. In reality we can’t control anything. We can have an influence over things but ultimately we have no control. The want to be in control must make you feel out of control and this is the threat the mind sees.
Although it is an irrational and illogical fear the subconscious can’t tell the difference between a real or imagined experience. It is real for the person experiencing it.
We have a six week program to resolve the fear of flying through counselling and hypnotherapy. There are also hypnosis recordings that can be listened to each day between sessions and used on the plane when traveling.
