Alcohol Addiction Hypnotherapy
To look at alcohol addiction we must first understand if we are dealing with someone who is an alcoholic or just someone with a drinking problem. A drinking problem may well be a result of bad habits. The alcoholic just can’t drink at all. The problem drinker may be able to change habit patterns to become a moderate social drinker. People often use alcohol as self-medication to ease anxieties such as social anxiety. The problem with alcohol problems is that is usually a result of other deeper issues and if those issues are not resolved that person will usually go back to drinking to self-medicate.
We work to resolve any issues that may be there and change habit patterns if they are not.
Alcohol is a depressive and most people with an alcohol problem will feel regret, remorse and guilt over it. Some will fall into depression. The depression feeds the desire for alcohol as a way of escape and the alcohol feeds the depression in a vicious cycle. Not all people who have alcohol problems feel anxious or depressed. For some it is just a bad habit that could be binge drinking or drinking every day more than you should. A person who has a couple of alcoholic drinks each day doesn’t necessarily have a drinking problem, no more than someone who likes a couple of coffee’s, or cups of tea.
Our program works at a subconscious level through the use of clinical hypnotherapy and counselling. It usually takes around 4 to 6 weeks to bring about changes to habitual thinking and behaviour.
We also use hypnosis recordings to use between the individual weekly sessions, to reinforce the changes. There is also a set of recordings than can be listened to in a car.
Our sessions are confidential and are covered by some health funds.
